Top Michigan State commit opting for another year in juniors

One of Michigan State hockey’s top commits will not be joining the team for the 2026-27 season, opting to spend another year at the junior ranks. Tommy Bleyl will be fine tuning his game with the Moncton Wildcats of the QMJHL for one more season.

A 6-foot, 170-pound defenseman, he was the QMJHL Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2025-26. In his big year, Bleyl netted 13 goals, while adding 68 assists. A major future contributor for the Spartans, he is someone that could benefit from another year of seasoning in major junior hockey, before being a big piece of the MSU program in 2027-28, when he plans to come to East Lansing.

Bleyl will be eligible to be drafted in this summer’s 2026 NHL Entry Draft.
