Trip to Minnesota puts Gophers firmly in play for edge Cameron Saunders

San Jose (Calif.) Valley Christian edge Cameron Saunders was in Big Ten country over the weekend for an official visit to Minnesota.

In every aspect, the Gophers made a strong case.

“The official was very good in all ways,” said Saunders. “What stood out was how much the coaches genuinely care about the players and all their energy.”

That included his time with the coaches.

“I met with coach (PJ) Fleck, coach (Danny) Collins and coach C.J. (Robbins),” said Saunders. “The conversations were very good, talking about football, their style of play and how I fit into the scheme and compared some of my film. We also talked more outside of football, about just life.”

Saunders said Fleck thoroughly impressed him.

“I like coach Fleck a lot,” said Saunders. “I love his energy and the way it seems he coaches and the lessons he brings.”

He was also a fan of Robbins.

“I really like coach C.J.,” said Saunders. “He has been the one recruiting me and I relate a lot to him and his energy.”

Saunders was hosted by Adam Kissayi on the visit and also spent time with recruits visiting like Daniel Yebit, Ifeanyi Emedobi and Ma’atoe Moe.

Coming from Northern California, he enjoyed being in Minneapolis.

“Minneapolis is a really nice city and I can definitely tell everybody here loves the sports and has a great fanbase,” said Saunders. “Also on the plus side, even TSA in the airport was very nice.”

Saunders has two more visits lined up, to Utah and Cal, and then he plans to have a decision in June.
