The Baltimore Orioles will lose their Opening Day starter for at least the next 12 days.

On Wednesday, the AL East club announced that left-hander Trevor Rogers was placed on the 15-day injured list with an undisclosed illness. The earliest he can return is May 11 because the IL placement is retroactive to April 26.

Reliever Cameron Foster was recalled from Triple-A Norfolk to take Rogers’ spot on the roster.

“Rogers deservedly earned the nod as Baltimore’s Opening Day starter after his dominant second half in 2025,” Anthony Franco of MLB Trade Rumors wrote. “He fired seven scoreless innings to beat Minnesota in the debut. Rogers followed up with consecutive quality starts against Texas and the White Sox. His most recent three appearances have been rockier, as he has failed to advance into the sixth inning and taken the loss all three times out.”

The Orioles now lose Rogers for Friday’s opener against the New York Yankees in the Bronx. Zach Eflin underwent UCL surgery and is out for the year, and Dean Kremer is on the IL due to a quad strain.

Chris Bassitt and Brandon Young will start tomorrow’s doubleheader against the Houston Astros
