‘Will be ready for the first match’ – Spain coach provides positive update on Barcelona forward’s fitness

Barcelona and Spain have received a major boost ahead of the World Cup after national team manager Luis de la Fuente suggested that Lamine Yamal could be fit in time for the opening match of the tournament.

The teenager’s fitness had been one of the biggest concerns surrounding Spain’s squad announcement following his recent injury setback.

However, De la Fuente has now delivered a positive update, indicating that the Barcelona forward is progressing well in his recovery.

What was said?

While Spain will continue to monitor the youngster closely, there is growing optimism that he could be available much earlier than initially expected.

Speaking about the Barcelona forward’s condition, De la Fuente revealed that the coaching staff is pleased with the player’s recovery process and remains confident about his chances of featuring during the early stages of the competition.

“We know he’ll be in perfect condition and I’d even go so far as to say he’ll be ready for the first match, but we’ll keep monitoring his progress.”

It must be noted that the winger has become one of the most influential young players in world football and was always expected to play a central role in Spain’s World Cup plans.

His potential availability for the opening fixture against Cape Verde would therefore represent a significant boost.

Despite the positive outlook, Spain’s medical staff is expected to remain cautious to avoid any unnecessary risks before the tournament begins.

Apart from discussing his fitness, De la Fuente also highlighted the maturity Yamal has shown while dealing with the growing pressure that comes with being one of football’s biggest young stars.

The Spain coach believes the Barcelona attacker fully understands the responsibility that now comes with his status and expects him to continue developing both on and off the pitch.

“He needs to remain consistent, keep improving, keep working harder and look after himself better, although he’s already doing that,” he added.
