Coming off a stellar freshman season, the Wisconsin Badgers know they’re in for it on Sunday, September 6.
Notre Dame quarterback CJ Carr has been named one of “10 early Heisman Trophy contenders” according to ESPN’s Jake Trotter.
“In his first season as the starter, Carr ranked third nationally in yards per attempt (9.35) and yards per dropback (8.59) while limiting mistakes, throwing only six interceptions while taking just 12 sacks. Carr’s emergence is the biggest reason the Irish could be back in the playoff after getting snubbed last year,” he wrote.
It’s clear Trotter still believes the Fighting Irish should’ve made the playoffs over Miami, the same team they lost to, 27-24, in Week 1. Regardless, Carr could undoubtedly be the reason they return to the playoffs in 2026-27.
Wisconsin’s defense has always been solid, but how will it do in a Week 1 matchup against a QB who looked unstoppable in his first collegiate season?
Playing at Lambeau Field should help. The lights will be extremely bright, but Carr delivered time and time again a year ago when his team needed him the most.
